A German man has set one of the most unusual LEGO Guinness World Records ever, with a build that pays tribute to a regional delicacy in brick-built form.
Using 65,000 bricks, Tommy Schmidt broke the record for the world’s largest LEGO brick sausage, with the finished model measuring 2 metres long.
The father-of-two has been passionate about LEGO since childhood and has previously created a range of intricate builds, including a Star Wars-inspired functional droid factory and an indoor swimming pool.
After being approached by meat and sausage producer Die Thüringer, Schmidt took on the ambitious project, which ultimately led to the record-breaking creation.

“In my home region of Thuringia in Germany, the Bratwurst is a local speciality that has since become known around the world,” Schmidt told Guinness World Records. “We wanted to create a tribute to it.”
The build took around six months to construct, with the wider project spanning close to a year and becoming part of his daily routine.
Schmidt joked: “During the entire building process, the model stood in our living room, and eventually even my wife got used to it.”
He also explained the practical challenges behind the build: “From the very beginning, I had to plan the model in such a way that it would fit through our large patio door.”
The giant sausage forms part of a larger display, sitting inside a LEGO bun with a squiggle of yellow LEGO mustard.
Originally, the build was intended to be smaller, but it was scaled up to enhance the visual impact and create a more striking physical effect when viewed in person.
Inspired by watching his father repair and build things as a child, Schmidt now draws on that same mindset in his own creative work.
He is currently planning a new large-scale model that will pay tribute to retro gaming.
